When, I signed up to Hubzilla there was no option to choose my language like you can do with Facebook. This is an important piece of information in filtering out the noise of posts I don't understand and searching for new friends in the directory.
There is only one profile in the default installation of Hubzilla profile, when people have 3 core profiles in the world. People have a personal profile for family and friends in apps such as Instagram and WhatsApp. People have a professional profile for business such as LinkedIn. Lastly people have a public profile such as WordPress. Having these 3 profiles would show the world the power of Hubzilla. The Hubzilla documentation describes the power of profiles in a very abstract ways. It's better to offer people the choice of profiles, saving the time of having to create these profiles.
My final recommendation for the onboarding experience is to allow people to upload their personal and professional contacts. If the contact files included groups, these groups could automatically be generated by Hubzilla. This would speed up the onboarding experience. Even better, would be searching the Hubzilla Directory for your personal and professional contacts, using shared contact info such as telephone numbers. Of course, the telephone numbers wouldn't be publicly listed in the Hubzilla Directory.
