I've muddled through the Hubzilla Onboarding experience, which I found confusing.
The english language hubzilla.org website is well structured and lead me to the hubzilla host provider, klacker.org. The home page of klacker.org has one column in english and one column in german, which is disorienting, given I came from the english language hubzilla website.
Still, the klacker.org home page explained my responsibilities to klacker.org, which I found quite reasonable. However, klacker.org did not explain its responsibilities towards me.
My primary concern is how much time should I invest in Klacker.org. There is no commitment to a notice period should the website be shutdown. Similarly, there is no commitment to upgrade to the latest version of Hubzilla to maintain security. I don't think these are unreasonable requests.
Still, I decided to go forth in my Fediverse Hubzilla adventure. After the usual registration process, I created my default profile with minimal information. Initially, I used my initials and surname for my default profile, but then I decided to use all my initials for now. Still, I appreciate the option to edit my default profile. I agreed to register my default profile with the directory and publish my status.
My channel role in my default profile is public, but there are also the options personal, forum and custom. The help for role was out of date, so I decided to stick with public for now. Hopefully, I can change my channel role in my default profile, at a future date if need be.
Next, I navigated to the share field. I had nothing to share, so I looked at settings. Eventually, I came back to the share field. When I tapped the share field, I was presented with the option to create a post, ala Facebook style. I suggest the share field be renamed post to avoid any confusion for new users like me.
