When I was testing it, it silently rejected mentions from anyone that wasn't a connection with no way to change that

So from my Hubzilla account, I can mention you without you being in my connection list.

And with Hubzilla I can set exactly who is allowed to mention me and who is not. I think that's pretty precise.

@Tokyo Outsider (337ppm)'s issue was that when she was on Hubzilla, and someone whom she wasn't connected to mentioned her, she didn't notice.

By the way, there is an option to turn that behaviour off, but this behaviour is on by default, the option isn't too easy to find, and of course, it only works with whatever posts end up on your hub. And your average Hubzilla hub has much less traffic than a big Mastodon instance.

I think the option not to be mentioned by strangers is quite easy to find. At least with Hubzilla and (streams). Mastodon doesn't even have the option, does it?
